“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

- Marcus Garvey.

Udara, the fruit of a tree that grows in some parts of Nigeria. In the eastern part of the country, there are myths surrounding this tree. In one, children would often play underneath this tree but could never climb it to pluck its fruits.

However, the children where always fully fed. It was said that the ancestors of these children, Lived atop this tree, and would shake its branches to allow its fruits drop as their way of  providing for those they had left behind.

At Udara we have adopted this mythology, realising the need to provide for current and up coming generations by connecting them to their roots through the language they understand.

Our Why

Children and young people with no strong connection to their history, culture, and traditions have, low self-worth, little self-love and lack self confidence, in turn they suffer from identity crisis and therefore poor mental health.

We Found

Young people find reading tedious. People are willing to learn about history, visiting historical landmarks. However this could be hindered by pandemics or simply incapability to travel. They are also glued to their gadgets, phones, PCs, game consoles.

The Idea

Through storytelling as the ancestors did, combined with modern technology, VR, AR, and video games  we will connect children and youth of African decent with their roots. Essentially, using what they love to give them what they need.
